"Brushing me off"
I am in the blogging mood today I guess. Actually I have had lots to say but never seem to find the time or willingness to come and post. So lucky for you, depending on you look at it, I am blogging my ass off today.
As you know I have known I have had a job for a week or so. Well, I have been keeping that a secret from the wonderful people at the post office. So I could possibly work their on Saturdays and bring in some extra cash. I was also getting paid to go to training. Is it bad that I didn't tell them right away? I don't think so. I was supposed to start tomorrow.
I called the wonderful postmaster and told her that I was done with my training and she jumps right in to tell me the plans she has for me. One being able to let an older woman who can't hera out of one of her ears go in for an operation to get it fixed. I had to stop her and tell her that I was offered two jobs TODAY and had to decide which one.
This is when it got fun.
She flipped out and and asked, "So you're just going to brush me off?" I was like whoa! You knew I was looking for a job when you interviewed me. Plus, all I have been hearing the last two weeks in training is how they expect to keep people like me working for them. "People like me", meaning substitute mail men/women. I wasn't guaranteed 40 hours a week and wasn't getting any bennies with the job. What the hell did she want me to do? I have a wife and a kid.
I had told her that and she eventually calmed down and wished me luck. I am bummed I can't work there on Saturdays at least. It goes againts what she can have on hand as far as subs and regular employees. She didn't want to waste a spot on me...I can't blame her. She said she would mail my check to me when she gets it. That is a plus, I am guessing it will be around $600 maybe a bit more.
Do you think it's any wonder why old Cliff drank? Where the term "going postal" comes from? I mean really I have a way better opportunity with the college. Granted it may have been a dick move on my part but I hardly "brushed" her off. I called and told her. This makes her shorthanded for God knows how many more weels/months but maybe the USPS should look at losing the subs. I found greener pastures and went to graze.
